Good news Philly!
The Mantua Community Improvement Committee's (M.C.I.C.) 7th Annual Family Day Festival has been rescheduled for Saturday, September 10th from noon to 7 p.m. at the intersection of 34th Street and Mantua Avenue.
While violence and flash mobs in Philadelphia riddle headlines locally and nationwide, M.C.I.C.’s Family Day Festival sets forth to celebrate the positivity that exists deep within Philadelphian communities. Members of the community, including youth, families, politicians and businessmen, will be encouraged to sign M.C.I.C.’s “Positivity Pledge,” which highlights a person’s commitment to focusing on youth support in homes, communities and schools.
“This is an amazing event that offers residents of Philadelphia the opportunity to learn about nutrition, safety, education and job training,” said Rick Young, founder of M.C.I.C. “We encourage everyone to come out and celebrate Philadelphia, while enjoying free food and refreshments, arts and crafts and a star-studded concert lineup.”
Award-winning Drexel University Professor Dr. “Chuck” Williams, Producer/Rapper Kwamè Holland and WRNB Radio Host DC Todd will be co-hosting the event. Festival attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a free concert with headlining musicians Kwamè, Grammy award-winning group Naughty By Nature and hip-hop legend Rapper Slick Rick.
The event, which is supported by Councilwoman Jannie L. Blackwell, will also be raising money to support a youth entrepreneurship program starting this fall. For more information on M.C.I.C., please visit www.mcic1.org.
